Our philosophy and values
East Oakland Community Project is led by dedicated and compassionate staff who serve people and families experiencing homelessness with a high level of responsibility and integrity.

Across the organization, we value diversity in all its forms, embrace initiative and a strong ethic of caring for others, and support personal growth and positive change. We work collaboratively and inclusively across residents, staff, board, and the greater community!
In the words of our staff...

Joanne RileyI’ve worked at EOCP for 13 years, and I get to do what I love — cook food! I remember a resident who first arrived at Crossroads struggling with being underweight, but after eating three meals per day, he was able to reach a healthy weight. People have given me a call and said, “Thank you for feeding me so well.” Having that kind of an impact makes me feel good — I know it is appreciated by our residents. I have learned so much about how to support people who are going through some of the hardest times in their lives, and how to have patience and understanding.Joanne Riley, Cook at Crossroads Shelter

Fletcher HaleyI like working at EOCP because I am giving back to my home. I was born and raised in East Oakland, and have a great deal of love for the city and the people. At EOCP, I have the opportunity to be a part of the hope and inspiration necessary to help people who call this city home; to help them move from unhoused to housed. This work is not easy, but it is all worth it when you see or have a small part in someone graduating from one of our programs far beyond where they entered.Fletcher Haley, Lead Case Manager, Matilda Cleveland and Families in Transition Transitional Housing

LaQuoia PalmoreI love interacting with families and kids, and creating a bond with them is a wonderful feeling. I enjoy being able to help people with employment, accessing donations, and working on life skills to get them back on their feet. I am making an impact by helping families not only with permanent housing, but also with stable jobs and quality education. Working at EOCP has shown me how important it is to be dedicating my career to helping people experiencing homelessness, to make a real difference for families in my community. If you love to work with people, and like to give back to your community, EOCP is the place to be!LaQuoia Palmore, Housing Advocate at Family Matters Shelter

Tambra DurenMy number one passion, since my first day working at EOCP in 2008, is being able to house a client — to see them move from homelessness and into housing. At EOCP, we’re fire-starters, go-getters, and trailblazers for Oakland. Senior leaders have a way of getting that fire started, and adapting to shifting community agendas, resources, and priorities while continuing to serve people experiencing homelessness in the most impactful ways possible. In this way, EOCP isn’t just a trailblazer, we’re also the heartbeat of our community. We are actually doing the work — we are committed to the people who we say we’re committed to.Tambra Duren, Rapid Rehousing Manager
