At EOCP, we build personalized, trusting, and authentic relationships with people experiencing homelessness so they can begin working towards their self-sufficiency goals. One of the ways we develop relationships with people who are unhoused is by building community during their stay with us. At our Crossroads shelter, for example, residents partake on bingo night which takes place on Wednesdays, twice a month.
Bingo night is an opportunity for residents to laugh and be silly and set their personal crises aside, it gives them a break. EOCP also provides for additional opportunities for recreation and community through events and celebrations such as Mother’s and Father’s Day.
As Myeeka Calhoun, Case Management Services Manager at Crossroads shares: “Residents have better outcomes when they have a sense of belonging and a sense of ownership of their space.” Bingo night provides EOCP residents with a sense of belonging and hope to move forward with their personal goals.
