A Place to Heal

Fri, Dec 15, 2023A Place to Heal

At EOCP we often say that “we meet our clients where they are at.” This could not be more true than with our Respite Care clients who have been discharged from the local public health system to EOCP for recuperative care after surgery, a long illness, or a health emergency. Our clients are unhoused without an acceptable or safe place to lay down to recuperate.

EOCP eliminates the health system barriers for respite care clients by providing the comprehensive care they need: a bed for needed rest, three nutritional daily meals, health coaching, ongoing care from an onsite Licensed Vocational Nurse and linkages to primary care. Once a person’s health has stabilized they are connected to permanent housing and other community resources. 80 people, 56 men and 24 women, have been served through the program in 2023. Over 80% of clients live with one or two disabling conditions.

The Respite Care Program was launched in October of 2013 and was the **first program of its kind in Alameda County**. Many of the people being served have experienced extreme barriers in accessing healthcare which has resulted in repeated homelessness over many years. We have successfully partnered with our Respite Care clients over the last 10 years to stabilize their health and transition into the community.

Together, we are strengthening a future where unhoused people needing recuperative care are supported with the compassion and resources they need. Will you help us by donating today?

Thank you for your support and sharing in our community care.
