EOCP collaborates
with many agencies and community organizations to
provide the most comprehensive services to shelter
residents. A partial list of our partners includes:
- Medical Care: Highland Hospital,
Sausal Creek Stabilization Clinic, Life Long Medical
Center, Native American Health Center and the Wellness
Center provide eligible EOCP individuals and families
with emergency medical, dental and psychiatric services;
Highland also provides specialty clinic services
to EOCP residents. Health Care for the Homeless provides
a professionally staffed mobile health unit on a
bi-monthly basis and provides medical assessments
and referrals and a dental clinic.
- Educational
and Vocational Opportunities: Goodwill Industries
and Rubicon provide job training and employment
opportunities; Oakland’s Adult Education Program
and Edward Shands supply general education courses;
the Bread Project is a 9-week training program
that prepares students for entry level positions
as cooks and bakers.
- Parenting
Classes: Parental Stress offers parenting
education classes; Papas gives parenting classes
for African American fathers.
- Substance
Abuse Counseling: Options for Recovery, East
Bay Community Recovery Project’s “Project Pride” provides
residential treatment for substance abuse and
transitional housing; the Highland Day Treatment
Program offers outpatient drug rehabilitation
for residents as well as speakers for EOCP monthly
Risk Reduction Workshop; West Oakland Health
Council’s Residential Treatment Program, Collaborative
Effort supplies individual counseling to help
families cope with stress, improve mental health
and recover from substance abuse.
- Legal
Services: Alameda County Homeless and Caring
Court, East Bay Community Law Center and Homeless
Action Center assist residents with legal issues.
- Educational
and Enrichment Activities for Children: The
Rainbow Community Center has after school and
weekend enrichment programs; Oakland Unified
School District offers computers, educational
materials and after school programs; East Oakland
Youth Development Center provides tutoring and
enrichment activities; Bananas provides childcare
funding and referrals as well as hygiene product;.
United Lutheran Church provides an after school
enrichment program.
- Donations
for Families: East Oakland Church of God
and Christ donates new clothing; Iron Souls helps
families purchase household items when they acquire
permanent housing.
- Holiday
Events: Superior Court of California, Dept.6,
Telecommunication Pioneers of America, Grace
Point Fellowship Church, The Oakland Raiders,
The Warriors, Iron Souls, Black Fire Fighters,
Lend a Hand Foundation and United Lutheran Church
host holiday parties and/or gifts for residents.
- Food: St.
Vincent de Paul Society provides prepared and fresh
foods daily; the U.S. Department of Agriculture,
Alameda County Food Bank and Berkeley Bowl donate
food for nutritious meal preparation.
